WE WILL NEVER FORGET……… (62nd Anniversary)
📍 Birmingham, Alabama
Today marks the 62nd anniversary of the tragic bombing at the 16th Street Baptist Church—a hateful act that stole the lives of four innocent little girls: Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Cynthia Wesley, and Carole Robertson.
We honor their memory and sacrifice, knowing that the freedoms we cherish today came at a devastating cost.
But the story of that church did not end in rubble. It rose again—restored with dignity, craftsmanship, and excellence. That restoration was led by Gillard Construction, a Black-owned general contractor, with Mr. James Poindexter serving as superintendent of the project. His steady hand, his commitment to excellence, and his love for community ensured that the church was put back together as though nothing had been broken.
On Saturday, September 20, 2025, during the Black Contractors Association Alabama Chapter’s annual fundraiser—this year celebrating the legacy of Frankie Beverly—we will proudly present the first-ever James Poindexter Spirit of Excellence Award. This honor recognizes his contributions not only to that historic project but to the growth and development of countless individuals in our industry and community.
Because even in the face of tragedy, our people built. And we continue to build. ✊🏾
